Loungers

They've been besties from the get go...

They like their sofa time together

Toof

Katie Ray lost another front tooth on December 12th. Right next to the first one to go.

The tooth fairy didn't disappoint. A dollar bill, a dollar in quarters *and* 2 chocolate coins!

Number 2401

This says:
Number 2401
Always take your brother away from his room.

I'm not sure what that means but my heart is swelling with pride for my girl sounding out words all by herself. This is the second time she has presented me with a document she's sounded out and written herself. Tomorrow I'll post the first one.

Meanwhile, she's also been very proscriptive in the art department lately. I'm laid up in bed with back pain so she's spent part of the day next to me doing some drawings.

A cat wearing a hat with a ball of yarn.

Katie Ray and me, as foxes in a field of flowers (or clouds). Obviously hats are having a moment right now in animal fashion.

Brave little patient

Friday night is movie night in our house and this week was no exception.
It is always a great way to kick off the weekend. Pizza delivery and kicking back
on the sofa.
But Saturday morning poor little KR woke up with a bad stomach ache that got worse fast. She was sick all day.  The saddest part when she gets sick is how stoic she is. She's actually going through a whiny phase right now (at least I hope it's a phase!) but all day she was tough and not a single complaint.

By 8pm she was feeling so much better ... iPad time and ginger ale made for a very happy girl.

And then we told her it was bed time and she started whining again. Oh well. At least we know she's back to her old self!

Walk like an Egyptian

Happy Halloween.

Katie Ray chose to be cleopatra for Halloween this year. Here she is in hair and makeup.
We got an amazing Liz Taylor wig that she chose, too, but it was itchy so we skipped that.

Halloween starts early here and by 5pm we were at a party that had started an hour earlier!

Here she is trick or treating at her kindergarten teacher Mrs. Hibbert's house after a good two hours out with her friends.

Mrs. Hibbert's dog Elodie was a good witch and did tricks for KR.

Namma nights

When my Namma came to visit, we had a lot going on to say the least, but Namma and I managed to have a very great visit.

Started with swimming in my fave hotel pool

Then poolside dining and cuddling

Then a special sleep under with Namma, eating room service, watching movies, and staying up late in Namma's hotel room...
...Before going back home very, very late at night (9pm!?!)

Tooth-less

KR lost her first tooth on September 24th!

We had a very celebratory champagne dinner in honor of KRs lost tooth, combined with rosh hoshanah!

The tooth came out in school (during math) which meant that KR not only got to make an announcement to the class --others have lost teeth but hers was the first to come during school-- she also made an announcement to the entire school on Monday this week! I hear she did a fabulous job! They also gave her a special tooth-keeping pendant.

Of course we wrote to the tooth fairy that night.

At the last minute, KR allowed the tooth fairy to keep the tooth.

Butterfly

This little butterfly had back to back birthday parties today which meant she was half princess/half pony girl. Given that it was high-90s and into 100 degrees today, we were lucky to make it through the day, let alone smiling all the way!!

Loose Tooth alert!

Better make that, Loof Toof alert! It could come out any day now!

Big girl

This is Katie Ray, heading to bed with my bear that Santa brought me at Christmas 1978.  I still remember when Santa delivered him to me!

Katie Ray has known bear since she was a teeny tiny little thing.

Now she is such a big girl... But she is also still my little girl!!

School Daze

We have been in such a blur with a start of school that I've really dropped the ball on posting.

Hoping this picture says a thousand words, as I'm too tired to write more!

Reflections

Last weekend we went to a baby shower at a beautiful house in Cheviot Hills. KR was the only kid there but she
A) won one of the shower games and received Clue the board game, and
B) was so well behaved and grown up the whole time.

She took a lot of shots of the backyard and agreed to let me take a few of her apparently deep in thought, and then dancing to Katy perry.

Moi lately

Another month has gone by and packed with action too. I graduated from Preschool for one thing! I also started Kindergarten camp.  And now I am on vacation in black butte, Oregon.

When I'm back in LA, I will post pics from last month. Until then, here's a bit about the trip.

We flew up to Redmond in a very little plane. Kind of like a private jet only with 36 strangers including the pilot and first mate. (??). I sat apart from my mom and Mac (dad and Champ drove up on their own) and I was a total angel and a huge helper to mom who felt like a crazy Sherpa carrying 3 bags and a carseat onto that toy plane.

Grandma picked us up and we zipped to the cabin and right away went for a lovely nature walk.
The next day, the first item on the agenda was SWIMMING!!
I have been swimming a lot.

We've also been doing tons of art projects.

And playing...and going on walks... And out with friends...
And more swimming.

Oh and buying my first pair of clip-on earrings that I adore.
More updates soon!

TwinkleToes

I've been delinquent in posting photos taken on my "real" camera - iPhones make blogging on the fly so quick and easy, but I neglect to post these great photos from more momentous occasions!

On May 3rd, Katie Ray had her ballet recital - it was adorable of course.  My prima ballerina was so graceful and confident on stage!

She was thrilled to have her little brother in the audience - his second time attending a recital for her.  Last year he was about 5 or 6 days old at her recital! Unfortunately Mac came down with a bug that night, but he was tickled pink to be getting this attention from KR!
So proud of my beautiful ballerina!
